In Their Own Words: Educators Talk About HOO

The real impact of the HOO program is not measured in numbers, but in the impact the activities have on HOO students and the teachers and volunteers who bring science to life for them. The excitement of the HOO experience is best captured in the educators own words. The following excerpts from interviews with educators using the program show glimpses of the HOO program in action—making a difference for both the educators and their students.

Michael’s Story
Michael Cunningham runs an after school MESA program in California for 6-8 graders four days a week.  more »

Michelle York works with 7th and 8th graders in a Title 1 school in Oregon.  more »

Kristi’s Story
Kristi Southern works with 8th graders on a reservation in Washington State. About 85 to 90 percent of her students get free or reduced lunches.  more »

Lolly’s Story
Lolly Levine works with high school students in her MESA Club in Arizona and also teaches high school. Seventy-five percent of her students are minorities. Her goal is to get as many as possible to go to college.  more »
